TAXES:
On the purchase of the property the Purchaser, has to pay a Land Registry Publication Tax (Taxe sur la Public Fonciere) and VAT (TVA) charged on the Notaires fees, not on the price of the property.

There are two local taxes which are paid annually, the amounts being set by the Commune. One is the Impot Fonciers (land tax) the other the Residential tax (Taxe d'habitation). The Taxe d'habitation is paid whether one is living in the property or not if water and electricity are connected. If the property is rented long term by the owner, the tenant is liable.

Remember that similar to the UK, some "Domaines" or apartment buildings will have maintenance charges as well.
